Preps in Australia
This might seem a bit extreme to some given that we live in the land of plenty and we have so much prosperity BUT inflation is definately coming so hedging against that is worthwhile IMO. If worse is to come, and I believe it is, then preps makes even more sense. So to the point of the thread.....
I thought it would be a good idea for Aussies to share ideas and sources for food and supplies and point people in the right direction if better deals orproducts can be found. Here are a couple to get started. I am in WA so some suppliers may not be available in other states Asian Grocery stores. We have lots here, from small corner ones to larger bulk supplies. Great for sacks of rice, litres + of soy sauce, other sauces. Gallons of oils, Cheap cook wear, cuttlery, tin plates, take away containers, herbs and spices. Cash N Carry. This is a national chain but they supply restaraunts and corner stores/deli's etc. To purchase from them you need to have a registered business name and apply for a card. Once you have the card you can buy at discounted prices. You get 5% - 10% discount when buying by the case. In WA you can get access to this facility as a J6P or Average Joe buy joining a club called WEST BUY Club. They give you a card you can use at Cash N Carry. They also deliver. Part of the Cambells company. WA Info Things you can purchase: Canned food - cartons of 12/24 x 440gm Canned Food - catering size Oils/Lards - gallons, multi litres olive, vegetable, mixed. Cooking Sauces - italian, indian, chinese etc Herbs - in bulk containers Rice - sacks of, various types Noodles - instant and wet Pastas - all varieties Flour - sacks of, 25Kgs Bread Mixes - upto 15Kgs Yeast - vacuum blocks 500gm + Sugar - upto 15 Kgs Powdered milk - 20kgs + Cereals - oats, wheat bar, kids, muesli types Toiletries - toohpastes, personal items, smells and such Bottled water - 1L - 15L Eggs - multi dozen trays Plenty of other items like confectionary but to me that is not preps. Basically anything you can get in a super market you can get here in bulk. They may do Canned butter, according to the Red Feather importer. I will be hunting that one down this weekend. My experience is that their carton pricing is about the price you would pay per item on an advertised special at the super market. Sometimes it is better. Water Filters I picked up a couple of Royal Doulton silver impregnated (Sterasyl) water filters (candles). These are the ones that the Berkey filters use. I intend to make my own gravity fed filter. $35.00 inc tax + ship. $15 to ship up to 6 filters. I picked 4 up from The Water Shops. Good service. Anyone else got any ideas on supplies? Products that worked for you? I am looking to add camping supplies, tents, cookware, camp ovens, first aid etc. |
Re: Preps in Australia
I've done some very basic preps. Storing stuff like rice stops you being hurt by inflation and gives you some piece of mind.
Privmsg me and we can have a chat. |
